In the context of the European Agenda on Security, the Commission has committed to review existing policy and legislation on environmental crime. This review needs to be grounded in an initial retrospective evaluation of Directive 2008/99/EC (in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, coherence and EU added value towards fighting environmental crime and increasing environmental protection), which is the focus of this report.
