Under the umbrella of the Security Union strategy, this initiative on EU police cooperation aims at laying down a legal framework for cross-border police cooperation to counter cross-border organised crime, cybercrime and terrorism. In doing so, it will aim to streamline, simplify and adapt operational police cooperation to modern needs.

Microsoft urges EU to allow transfer of cybercrime investigations

Microsoft requests that police be given the ability to transfer investigations from victim jurisdictions to suspect jurisdictions. They argue this would prevent suspects from facing multiple investigations in different Member States for the same cybercrime and ensure the full extent of crimes can be considered.

This would reduce the number of separate investigations Microsoft must respond to for single cybercrime incidents.

Victim countries lose direct control over investigations affecting their citizens and residents.
