Under the EU’s common fishery policy, the Commission negotiates and implements sustainable fisheries partnership agreements with non-EU countries, wich allow EU vessels to fish for surplus stocks in the exclusive economic zone of the partner country. The EU provides financial compensation and assistance for a sustainable fisheries policy in the partner country. This initiative aims to negotiate a renewal of the Protocol implementing the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.
