The Commission adopted in 2014 a Communication on Blue Energy (COM/2014/08 final), which recognised the immense potential of harnessing the power of our seas. It requests the Commission to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the state of development of ocean energy at the latest by 2020. The review process will have to take into account the evaluation and further development of the EU's general policy towards renewable energy development and energy technology policy.
