Environment
The ELV Directive bans the use of four heavy metals (lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium and cadmium) in vehicles put on the market after 1 July 2003. It also includes, in its Annex II, a list of exemptions from this ban which are granted when the use of one of the banned heavy metals is unavoidable for technical or scientific reasons.
