Similar to the identical arrangements under the Common Fisheries Policy since 1983, Regulation (EU) No 1380/2013 on the Common Fisheries Policy authorises Member States, until 31 December 2022, to restrict fishing in the waters up to 12 nautical miles and for outermost regions to restrict fishing in the waters up to 100 nautical miles from their coastlines. The aim of this proposal is to avoid a discontinuation of this specific regime which could disrupt the current balance in access to waters.
