Freezing and confiscation of the proceeds of crime
Home affairs
The Commission report “Asset recovery and confiscation:ensuring that crime does not pay” sets out that a confiscation rate of estimated 1% is too low and allows organised crime groups to invest in the expansion of their criminal activities and to infiltrate the legal economy. The possible revision of the Directive would result in a broad modernisation of the EU legislation on asset recovery and further strengthen the competent authorities’ capacity to ensure that crime does not pay.
