The draft requires Member States to carry out and report results from whole genome sequencing of isolates found within the frame of food-borne outbreak investigation in accordance with Article 8(3) of Directive 2003/99/EC on zoonoses’ monitoring. It will substantially facilitate food-borne outbreak investigations and contribute to finding the cause of such outbreaks, limiting human cases and recalls/withdrawals of food, for the benefit of the EU consumers and the food business operators.
