The Commission negotiates and implements Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements (SFPAs) with third countries to guarantee the conservation and sustainable exploitation of resources in their waters. These SFPAs are based on a scientific assessment of the third country stocks which could be exploited by the EU fishing industry in those waters and take into account the economic and social interests of the third country concerned.
