The commitment to greater transparency and clearer rules on the financing of European political parties is a key initiative planned for 2021. The revision of the Regulation 1141/2014 is one of the deliverables of the European democracy action plan. It aims at strengthening the electoral representation of citizens by European political parties, and thus improving democratic legitimacy and enforcement, one year before the next European elections.
