This initiative will update the EU Maritime Security Strategy and its Action Plan, in line with the June 2021 Council request. While the 2014 Strategy and its Action Plan (revised in 2018) remain still valid, their assessment showed they should be aligned with other EU policies and instruments, including the Strategic Compass, and should also address increasing maritime security challenges and the complex geopolitical context.
