European Banking Federation Seeks Stronger Cryptography Standards for Digital Identity

European Banking Federation, 13 May 2025

The banking sector wants obsolete cryptographic algorithms banned from EU digital identity wallets and post-quantum cryptography integrated into technical standards. They argue current standards reference discontinued algorithms that don't meet wallet security requirements.
This would protect banks from security vulnerabilities in outdated encryption systems.
