Response to 8th Amendment to Annex II to Directive 2000/53/EC on end-of life vehicles

As a representative of the lithium-ion battery community, we disagree with the position of the lead-acid community and seek to follow the review timing recommendation of the Öko-Institut, which is the EU's own independent technical consultant on this matter. Starting the next technical review in 2019 is already a compromise between the positions previously studied by the Öko-Institut. It must also be remembered that the scheduling of the next review is not itself a decision on the outcome of such a review. It will only define when it is prudent to once again assess technical progress of alternatives to lead. If the lead-acid community is confident in its position that no meaningful technical progress in alternatives will be achieved in the next five years, there is no threat to them by starting the next review in 2019 or even earlier.
