Response to Climate Law

From a science-based approach, AFS understands that climate neutrality can be achieved through several complementary processes such as biomass to energy or oriented forest management, which help to support the ‘Clean Planet for ALL’ communication, when looking at all key economic sectors, including energy, transport, industry and agriculture. Reforestation and oriented forest management may have a very important role in climate change, because can work as natural sinks to capture and store CO2, being young trees more efficient in the CO2 capture and older trees in CO2 storage, and may have a higher socio-economic impact through the creation of new jobs. Among other applications, torrefied biomass can be used as a renewable fuel to replace coal in power plants, with lower SOX and CO 2 emissions, allowing them to continue operating, avoiding this way a socio-economic crisis due to collective dismissal. In the end, climate legislation shall be implemented to regulate climate policies towards sustainable and diversified environmental solutions. AFS developed the necessary technology to support several different sectors, and new developments are also being taken towards hydrogen production technology, contributing for a new path for mobility.
