Response to European grid package

The current regulatory framework acknowledges the importance of flexibility and has initiated some progress, it remains insufficient to fully address the complexity and urgency of flexibility needs in network planning and development. A more robust and coordinated approach is required. To make sure flexibility needs are properly address, we call for a comprehensive EU Strategy on Energy Flexibility, with a specific focus on energy storage. This is a key recommendation already highlighted by the ITRE Committee of the European Parliament in its draft resolution on the CID, and one which we strongly support. Such a strategy should clearly prioritise flexibility solutions, establish an enabling and coherent regulatory framework, and provide targeted incentives and support mechanisms to accelerate the deployment and development of flexibility solutions such as energy storage technologies
