Response to Evaluation and revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation

Science Based Paediatric Medicine Development: We welcome the introduction of paediatric medicine development based on the molecular target of a new medicine in the Commissions proposal. Improved access to essential anticancer medicines: We support the introduction of a dedicated chapter on the shortages of medicine and the EU-wide list of critical medicines. Multistakeholder cooperation and prioritisation: We welcome the introduction of multistakeholder involvement and prioritisation in the clinical development of medicines for the paediatric population, and we are looking forward to being engaged in this process. We believe the EU should allocate specific funding for research and development in paediatric medicines to support an area of underfunded High Unmet Medical Needs. First-in-child innovation: The proposal does not include specific incentives for first-in-child development and marketing authorisation of medicines. Therefore, we strongly recommend including a first-in-child marketing authorisation incentive, as this would be expected to increase commercial interest in the development of medicines specific to paediatric cancers (and paediatric rare diseases).
