The AEMB focuses its efforts on: • defending and promoting the role of the livestock markets at international and EU level; • asserting the economic strength of the livestock markets and their role in the organisation of the livestock and meat markets, and more especially in the formulation of prices; • promoting the improvement and modernisation of the market buildings and equipment; • developing a European consultation and information network.

Response to Evaluation of the Animal Health Law

The European Association of Livestock Markets (AEMB), created in 1983, represents 6 national federations representing 359 livestock markets. These markets are responsible for the sale (by auction or private treaty) of over 22 million head of cattle, sheep, pigs and horses. Livestock markets are an important link in the industry, playing an essential role both in ensuring fair prices and in regional and social dynamics. The European Association of Livestock Markets would like to thank the Commission for this call for contributions. The AEMB's contribution is attached.
