A coherent policy framework should be established, positioning circularity as a cornerstone of Europe's vision for strategic autonomy. The Circular Economy Act must be designed to revitalize and create a future-proof European industry, ensuring competitiveness and sustainability while incorporating the essential factors that enable the circular transition, keeping in mind short-term and long-term goals. This framework should create the economic rationale for innovation and the scaling up of investments necessary to support a fossil-free circular economy.

Our detailed recommendations for the Bioeconomy Strategy Update can be found in the attached document. Strategic Recommendations: 1. Integrate decarbonization and de-fossilization 2. Ensure access to sustainable biomass feedstock 3. Promote feedstock efficiency and new materials 4. Support recycling of innovative materials 5. Set market targets for biobased content 6. Facilitate access to funding Transitioning to a bioeconomy centered on biobased materials is essential for reducing fossil dependency, mitigating climate change, and fostering sustainable growth. With the right policies and support, the EU can lead the global shift toward a resilient, circular, and competitive bioeconomy. Avantium calls on the EU to translate these strategic priorities into concrete legislative measures that will unlock the full potential of biobased materials and secure a sustainable future for Europe.
