Response to Alignment EU rules on capital requirements to international standards (prudential requirements and market discipline)

23 Feb 2022

BAFT (The Bankers Association for Finance and Trade) welcomes the opportunity to comment on the “Banking Package” released on 27 October 2021 which includes a legislative proposal COM(2021)664, intended to amend Regulation (EU) No 575/2013 (Capital Requirements Regulation, CRR). BAFT is an international financial services industry association whose membership includes a broad range of financial institutions throughout the global community. As a worldwide forum for analysis, discussion, and advocacy in international financial services, BAFT member banks provide leadership to build consensus in preserving the safe and efficient conduct of the financial system worldwide. BAFT closely monitors the impact that new regulatory initiatives could have on the provision of trade financing and payment services that support real economic commerce. To that end, BAFT’s comments are primarily focused on issues for these particular sectors of the banking industry, although we note that other concerns about the “Banking Package”, in addition to ours, have been expressed by several other business organizations and entities. Our comments reflect our initial feedback. BAFT remains fully committed to providing further input during the course of the legislative process, with more detailed data on the topics discussed in the attached document.
