Response to European Sustainability Reporting Standards

7 Jul 2023

In our response to the European Commissions requests to share views on the first set of European sustainability reporting standards, we hereby call on the European Commission not to further reduce the ambition of the ESRS by preserving their integrity as a full set of standards and refraining from prioritising the implementation of some standards over others. We call on the European Commission to review the draft Delegated Act and to: 1) keep mandatory core of the standards, to avoid the risk of misinterpretation by preparers, auditors and supervisory authorities, and 2) 2) not change the status of certain disclosure requirements to voluntary, including all metrics on the impact drivers of land-use change, including deforestation (E4) and information regarding conditions of non-employee workers in own workforce (S1). In addition, we: 1) support the interoperability with global standard-setting initiatives and 2) request the Commission to consider our long-term recommendation to require a holistic Environmental Transition Plan addressing all material environmental topics (E1-5) over standalone Climate and Biodiversity Transition Plans (E1 and E4).
