Response to Commission Implementing Decision on a crisis management plan on food and feed

13 Nov 2018

The Italian Food Technologists provide their expertise and skills in crisis management, they are professionals belonging to regulated professions and also recognized at European level. (see attached deontological code of conduct of italian food technologist). This system must ensure that the Commission is ready to support the EU's ability to tackle crisis situations in food safety in terms of communication and information, as the institutions deputed from central to local ones, must stem the disorientation and loss of consumer confidence, as well as giving the productive fabric clear answers, to protect them from emergencies and market crises. Last but not least, a correct application of food traceability and traceability would avoid a waste of food withdrawn and destroyed due to justified warnings. The loss and food waste must be taken into account, by implementing measures to recover losses and wastage where possible. It would be important to manage the crisis even after the event, which has been completed, can be adequately refreshed by communicating that products, services and agri-food companies re-establish their reputation.
