Response to Circular Economy Act

Royal Cosun is a leading agricultural cooperative owned by 8,000 crop growers. Our aim is to maximise the valorisation of all components of our growers' crops. On yearly basis we process over 11.000.000 tonnes of biomass. We have been adding value this way since 1899. Our purpose is to contribute to a world of enjoyable, nutritional, and circular products by working together to unlock the full potential of our crops for current and future generation. In our endeavours to further upcycle all by-product flows that stem from our production-processes we encounter legislative hurdles that prohibit further improvements. We therefore welcome the initiative of the Commission to come with a new Circular Economy Act that could address these hurdles.

Royal Cosun is een coöperatie van ruim 8100 suikerbietentelers. In Nederland verwerken we de oogst van circa 100.000 hectare akkerbouwgewassen. Onze Nederlandse telers leveren suikerbieten, aardappelen en cichorei. Deze grondstoffen zetten we om in oplossingen van iedere dag. We produceren onder meer voeding (zoals suiker en aardappelproducten) en voedingsingrediënten voor mens en dier. Wij hechten er belang aan om op deze consultatie te reageren, omdat wij ons zorgen maken over de effecten van de verdere liberalisering van de handel met Oekraïne voor met name suiker voor de Europese akkerbouwers en suikerketen.
