Response to Application of EU health and environmental standards to imported agricultural and agri-food products

16 Mar 2022

CropLife International is the global federation representing the plant science industry. The CropLife International network consists of regional and national associations in more than 90 countries, including in the European Union and its member states. Our member companies are committed to supporting sustainable agriculture through innovation in crop protection, plant biotechnology, plant breeding innovation and seed production. At CropLife International, we are guided by our purpose to advance innovation in agriculture for a sustainable future. Our goal is to deliver more sustainable food systems, boost farmer resilience to climate change, and support the economic and social recovery of our farming communities while addressing the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals such as SDG 2 on “Zero Hunger”. Trade is not only a major part of the EU economy but also globally, and trade is a powerful lever to address many of the world’s challenges. We have long believed that governments, farmers, citizens, businesses and NGOs must work together to find solutions for more sustainable food systems and is a strong supporter of global harmonized standards set by consensus. CropLife International therefore welcomes the possibility to provide input into the Call for evidence on application of EU health and environmental standards to imported agricultural and agri-food products. CropLife International’s contribution focuses on compliance with WTO law. We remain at your disposal for further discussions.
