Response to Environmental claims based on environmental footprint methods

19 Jul 2023

ecoinvent welcomes the proposal from the Commission for a directive on the substantiation and communication of explicit environmental claims (Green Claims Directive). Addressing the issue of greenwashing and deceptive marketing practices is crucial in assisting both customers and companies to play an active role in the ecological transition. The proposed directive has the potential to play a significant role in driving this process. Within this process, we see the key role that the Commission can play in setting the stage and creating an environment that fosters the creation of robust data that can support the ecological transition. This involved providing focus to the market towards a common data format, nomenclature, methods, and minimum quality and methodological requirements. While we endorse the ambitions outlined in the directive, we would like to provide some feedback to the Commission, which we kindly request to be taken into consideration. The feedback is provided in the attached PDF file.
