Response to Rationalisation of reporting requirements

29 Nov 2023

First of all, we would like to thank you for the initiative of rationalising the reporting requirements. We have to admit its been a challenge lately to cope with administrative burden added to the governments and companies. Every time, such a sizable regulation is applied, companies have to hire new people just to comply. There are only 4 people working in Estonian companies in average. As such regulations and reporting requirements dont raise productivity per se, every added obligation reduces our competitiveness. We support the propositions, Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications has made already, regarding this initiative. We also want to mention that theres not much help of losing old regulation that we are already familiar with when European institutions add new regulation at an increasing pace. Therefore wed like to note that the amount of specific regulation related to CBAM, ESRS, BEFIT and accounting related to global income tax minimum are harmful for Estonian and perhaps for the whole European economy. Often the economic impact of new legislation hasnt been assessed on member state level by Commission which makes it difficult to make an informed decision. To sum up, we expect the administrative burden to be cut significantly and economic impact of European legislation to be assessed on member state level in order to support the competitiveness of European business.
