Response to Evaluation and revision of the general pharmaceutical legislation

8 Nov 2023

European Federation of Pharmacy Chains (EFPC) welcomes the opportunity to contribute to the revision of the EUs general pharmaceutical legislation. We believe that our comments, together with harnessing the potential of pharmacies, can contribute to the development of regulation that ensures high level of public health protection, patient safety and access to safe, effective and affordable medicines. The Pharmaceutical Package should, in EFPC's view, pursue the following objectives: (i) place the same importance on retail regulation as it does on wholesale regulation, by indicating core of requirements to be met by pharmacy operators; (ii) support new digital solutions for pharmacist and pharmacies as a mean to enhance and develop advanced pharmaceutical services for patients; (iii) acknowledge the essential role of pharmacies and pharmacists in mitigating medicine shortages; (iv) promote pharmaceutical compounding to ensure that medicines are prepared to meet individual patient needs in response to medicine shortages; (v) introduction of clear rules on regulations electronic package leaflets; (vi) acknowledge pharmacists role in coordinated efforts against antimicrobial resistance; (vii) broaden rights for persons authorized to supply medicines to receive samples of medicinal products.
