Response to The European Oceans Pact

21 Jan 2025

We are the EU Federation of the 1400 Medical Thermal & Thalasso Spa hospitals & Medical Universities with a faculty on Thermalism. We have been contacted by the #EuRuralPact for our capacity to combat Rural & Coastal Desertification as we bring Medical Staff to where there are Thermal Springs & pristine Coastal Areas. We have an economic model to see if it is feasible to develop a Medical Thermal & Thalasso Spa - and determine the size - which can bring Medical Staff to the area. When the last doctor has passed away and the pharmacy closes, then the young couples with children don't want to stay anymore. When we bring medical staff, they will stay, the grand-parents - who were not going to leave for the bigger villages/communes/cities - the family node remains in tact, etc and you get in a positive spiral. We also have a network of Rural & Coastal Health Authorities in villages where we have our Thermal & Thalasso Spas. To let organisations from different stakeholders collaborate, we use serious games. We collaborate with the EU Commission Serious Games team: https://blogs.ec.europa.eu/eupolicylab/about-us/ All this has not yet been taken up in the European Oceans Pact. Sincerely, and for more information: https://europeanspas.eu/spa-medicine/
