Response to Revision of the Union legislation on blood, tissues and cells

8 Sept 2022

European Sperm Bank welcomes the commission’s proposal and acknowledges the increased focus on donor protection, regulatory oversight and the recommendation of implementation policy option 2. European Sperm Bank believes that a strengthen harmonization across countries as we believe this will benefit both the donors, the parents, and the donor children. However, we have noticed a range of aspects that can benefit from clarification or amendments, most notably: 1. The proposed definitions contain ambiguities that will be problematic when implementing the regulations. 2. Donors are not adequately protected when SoHO’s are used outside the country of recruitment. 3. The unique circumstances that apply to gamete donation are not covered. 4. The extend of content and access to the EU SoHO platform is not clear.
