Europe's People's Forum

NEPF

Aims The association shall pursue the following aim: to strengthen European democracy and engage Europe’s people and media in a debate about proposals and initiatives to influence the development of the EU so that its future political strategies better reflect the needs of the people. The association will collaborate with other European initiatives to further this aim. The aim of the association may be achieved through subsidiaries or through partners and collaboration with other organisations. NEPF pursues its aims through: • Research and development • Policy advice, • Design and Implementation of participatory processes, • Training and capacity building • Exchange of experience • Media and communication building of public spheres • Other activities NEPF has 90 member organisations that include civil society organisations, research institutions and professional organisations working with participatory and deliberative processes at local, national and European level.

Response to European Media Freedom Act

CITIZEN’S RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE MEDIA FREEDOM IN EU Safeguarding media freedom and pluralism in the internal market (Media Freedom Act Citizens’ concerns for independent and pluralistic media Independent media and freedom of speech were among the top priorities, when Panel 2 on European Democracy/Values and Rights, Rule of Law, Security finalised its 39 recommendations to the Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe. Media is central to guarantee a transparent democracy and accountable authorities that are trusted by the citizens. Media also offers people the information that is necessary for citizens to make decisions for themselves and give them a qualified say in and between the elections. From several participatory processes we know that many citizens feel badly informed and see the media they use as biased and partial in their coverage. We also know that most media outlets do not pay much attention to democratic dialogues, which involve citizen Based on the citizens' recommendations the Europe's People's Forum has in relative detils pointed to issues of concern for media freedom and possible solutions that also fulfills the needs of the citizens.
