Response to A New European Innovation Agenda

9 May 2022

The six EuroTech Universities – Technical University of Denmark (DTU), École Polytechnique (L'X), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), Technical University of Munich (TUM) as well as Ecole Polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Technion Israel Institute of Technology – are at the forefront of developing solutions to the grand challenges of society, spanning from health over digitalisation (tapping the full potential of artificial intelligence), industrial competitiveness (additive manufacturing, including automation, simulation and new materials) to the numerous challenges of creating a truly sustainable society. Contributing to making the European Green Deal a success is a core part of our activities. As universities of science and technology, we connect the dots, bring together all stakeholders, and deliver the integrated approach necessary to leave no one behind. EuroTeQ is emerging from the EuroTech Universities Alliance, taking on board two excellent partners Tallinn University of Technology from Estonia and Czech Technical University in Prague from the Czech Republic. Anchored in diverse geographical and cultural contexts, each partner with their corresponding eco-systems provides added value and a competitive advantage to the EuroTeQ cooperation. 45 associated project partners from industry and society contribute to these efforts. Our feedback addresses the "Fragmentation of the EU Innovation Ecosystem" and "developing and attracting entrepreneurial talent and encouraging diversity". Europe has a number of well-developed innovation hubs and entrepreneurship centres that are born out of strong Universities of Science and Technologies. We strongly believe there lies huge potential in further collaboration and scaling these innovation efforts, building upon the strengths of different ecosystems across the whole of Europe The alliance partners can scale European Tech Innovation by a factor of 10 together. We want to stimulate more projects and entrepreneurial mindset by replicating and digitizing successful programs and increasing student mobility across borders. We want to accelerate the most promising start-ups through a core program and by utilizing the strengths of each local ecosystem and enabling access to infrastructure and labs. We want to scale deep-tech start-ups by bridging finance from idea to venture capital readiness and link funding to focused team development and network. There lies a huge potential in further collaboration and scaling one Pan-European Entrepreneurship activity to address European challenges. Partners can scale European Deep-Tech Entrepreneurship by a factor of 10 in the next 10 years, keep it in Europe and drive Technological Autonomy. The Partner Universities are major drivers for innovation and entrepreneurship in Europe: A budget of € ~48 million over 3 years for the EuroTech Alliance is requested to deepen the collaboration and scaling of European impact.
