Euroopan Komissiolle/To European Commission Suomen Turkiseläinten Kasvattajain Liitto FIFURin asiantuntijalausunto Fur Free Europe kansalaisaloitteeseen / Finnish Fur Breeders Association FIFURs statement on the Fur Free Europe Initiative (following statement in Finnish) (The official language of this document is Finnish. Tausta Turkistuotannon kieltämisestä on tehty eurooppalainen kansalaisaloite Fur Free Europe (Eurooppa ilman turkiksia) C/2023/1559, joka on toimitettu komissiolle 14.6.2023. Eurooppalaisessa kansalaisaloitteessa komissiota kehotetaan ryhtymään toimiin, joilla kielletään: i) eläinten pitäminen ja lopettaminen ainoastaan tai pääasiallisesti turkistuotantoa varten ja ii) tarhattujen eläinten turkisten tai tällaista turkista sisältävien tuotteiden saattaminen EU:n markkinoille. Suomen Turkiseläinten Kasvattajain Liitto FIFUR vastustaa kaikilta osin Fur Free Europe-kansalaisaloitteen vaatimaa ylikansallista lainsäädäntöä ja toimenpiteitä. FIFUR on ainoastaan valmis tukemaan riittävin luonnontieteellisin perustein, ei filosofis-ideologisin perustein, määriteltyjä turkis- ja muiden tuotantoeläinten hyvinvointiin tähtääviä parannuksia ja laatujärjestelmiä, jotka kunnioittavat EU-oikeudessa suojattuja perusoikeuksia elinkeinon vapaudesta ja omistuksen suojasta. FIFUR lausuu kansalaisaloitteesta kunnioittaen seuraavaa. (liite) (The official language of this document is Finnish. A free translation of the introduction is provided below.) 1. Background A European Citizens Initiative titled Fur Free Europe (C/2023/1559), aiming to ban fur production, has been submitted to the European Commission on 14 June 2023. The initiative calls upon the Commission to take action to: i) prohibit the keeping and killing of animals solely or primarily for the purpose of fur production; and ii) ii) prohibit the placing on the EU market of fur from farmed animals or products containing such fur. The Finnish Fur Breeders Association (FIFUR) fully opposes the supranational legislation and measures proposed by the Fur Free Europe initiative. FIFUR is only prepared to support improvements and quality systems aimed at the welfare of fur and other production animals that are based on sound scientific evidence not on philosophical or ideological grounds and that respect the fundamental rights protected under EU law, including the freedom to conduct a business and the right to property. FIFUR respectfully submits the following statement regarding the initiative. (attachment)
