Response to Follow-up to the European Citizens’ Initiative “Fur Free Europe”

31 Jul 2025

The Fur Free Alliance welcomes this opportunity to contribute to the European Commissions Call for Evidence on a Fur Free Europe. Please see the attached document for our full response. We are strongly in support of Scenario 2, a full ban on fur farming and the placement of farmed fur products on the EU market. This is the only meaningful and effective option that would end the inherent suffering of animals kept for fur, bring EU law in line with the moral expectations of its citizens, and ensure consistency with broader EU objectives on sustainability, public health, and animal welfare. It would also reflect the reality that the fur industry is in long-term economic decline, propped up by public subsidies and increasingly out of step with both market trends and consumer values. We are firmly opposed to Scenario 3, which proposes animal welfare standards as an alternative to a ban. This approach would only perpetuate the very problems it claims to address. We expand on all of these points in the evidence attached.

Response to Revision of EU rules on textile labelling

29 Sept 2023

The Fur Free Alliance is an international coalition of more than fifty animal protection organisations, who work together to end the exploitation and killing of animals for their fur. We welcome the opportunity to respond to this call for evidence, particularly in light of the explicit references to fur in the stated objectives of the revision of EU rules on textile labelling. Please see the attached document for our feedback.
