Response to Commission Delegated Regulation on the methodology for risk assessments of invasive alien species

7 Dec 2017

The only sustainable way to proceed is by having a strong scientific base for all assessments. No anecdotal evidence should be used for the evaluation of species. The goal must be to have a workable model for the assignment of species stated as being a threat for the biodiversity in a long-term model. Also species should be evaluated in order of most risk full, these criteria shouldn’t be influenced in any way by economic incentives alone. Also factual information like the MVP (minimal viable population) and reproductive speed in combination with climatological factors should be part of the assessment. Scientific basis for the risk assessment should also be peer reviewed and done by independent sources.
