Response to Waste Framework review to reduce waste and the environmental impact of waste management

Humana LT supports the European Green Deal and joint efforts to fight climate and environmental crises. Being a circular economy company, we advocate for the proposals made by the European Commission and other co-legislators on extending the lifecycle of products, making them more sustainable and reusable. The recent amendments to the Waste Framework Directive, including a proposal to introduce mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles by the Commission on 5 July, is not an exception. In general, we support the ambition and vision of the Commission on the proposed transformation of the industry. We firmly believe these amendments will be crucial in encouraging manufacturers to take long-awaited steps and transform the industry into a more sustainable and environmentally friendly one. At the same time, we support joint efforts to extend the life cycle of textile products as it brings new potential for growth to a green and circular economy as well as enables crucial changes in consumer consumption patterns. Nevertheless, from our vast experience and knowledge in the textiles industry, especially in terms of preparation for reuse and recycling, certain parts of the proposed amendments could be improved to fully open the potential of circular textiles.
