Response to Empowering the consumer for the green transition

27 May 2022

ISEAL supports ambitious sustainability systems and their partners to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges. ISEAL develops guidance on good practices and brings together a range of multi-stakeholder initiatives that manage sustainability labels or business-to-business claims. We welcome the Commission’s Proposal for a Directive as regards empowering consumers for the green transition through better protection against unfair practices and better information. We support the Commission’s commitment to raising the bar on credible sustainability claims and we believe that stronger criteria for claims-making can play a critical role in eliminating misleading or confusing claims or labels in the EU marketplace. We share the objectives put forward in the legislative proposal by the Commission: sustainability or green claims in the EU marketplace should be clear, relevant, and substantiated to enable consumers to make more informed and sustainable purchasing decisions. To further this agenda, we want to provide the following views (in attached document) on the current proposal and the role of credible sustainability systems in driving and realizing the EU's green transition. ------- PLEASE OPEN THE ATTACHED FILE FOR OUR FEEDBACK -------
