Response to A European Strategy for AI in science – paving the way for a European AI research council

5 Jun 2025

The University of Copenhagen stands ready to contribute to the development and implementation of the European Strategy for AI in Science and looks forward to welcoming the community to the inaugural flagship event launching the AI in Science strategy in Copenhagen 3-4 November as part of the Danish EU Presidency. We believe that a balanced, inclusive, and forward-looking approach grounded in both scientific excellence and societal responsibility will be key to Europes success in this domain. We particularly welcome the RAISE initiative as a cornerstone of this strategy and encourage its rapid, well-coordinated, and researcher-responsive implementation. We look forward to continued dialogue and collaboration with the European Commission and other stakeholders to ensure that this strategy delivers on its transformative promise. Please see the attached position with further input in the following areas: 1. Support for the Resource for AI Science in Europe (RAISE) 2. Legal and Infrastructural Barriers to Data Use 3. Technology Transfer, Private Investment and Societal Impact 4. Capacity Building and Interdisciplinary Research 5. Physical Innovation Districts 6. Inclusion of Humanities and Social Sciences

Response to Quantum Strategy of the EU

3 Jun 2025

Europe stands at a crossroads in the global quantum race. To date, many European efforts have been geared towards not losing ground to competitors, but the EU must now compete to win. As innovation expert Lars Frølund notes, You can compete to win, or compete not to lose we need to get the promote mechanisms in place, shifting from a defensive stance to a bold, proactive one . In practical terms, this means dramatically scaling up investments and reducing barriers to innovation in quantum technologies. Europe is in fierce competition with the US and China in areas like quantum computing, and cannot afford half measures. The attached document is provided as feedback on the Quantum Strategy of the EU from the Quantum Foundry Copenhagen & NQCP, Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.
