Response to Specifications for the provision of cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS)

Mazda, a Japanese multinational automaker, welcomes the European Commission’s draft Delegated Regulation on C-ITS, which proposes ambitious measures to improve road safety and traffic efficiency in the EU, and wishes to thank for the opportunity to comment on the file. As a car manufacturer which constantly provides new innovative solutions to ensure safe and comfortable transport, Mazda believes that the Delegated Regulation is taking the right path to ensure the fast and effective roll-out of connected and automated vehicles in the EU. However, more needs to be done to guarantee legal certainty and provide incentives for the industry to invest in this technology. As a matter of fact, technology-neutral solutions and market freedom to use all the technologies available in the market are important pre-requisites to guarantee innovation in Europe and maintain the EU’s competitiveness with market leaders. Our contribution to the public consultation raises a number of questions and concerns that could hinder the development of C-ITS technologies in the EU, and includes proposals to help the EU to foster innovation in this sector, as well as to provide its citizens with safe and efficient vehicles. We would like to kindly request the European Commission to take into consideration our comments and suggestions for the final revision of the Delegate Regulation.
