Response to Commission Directive amending Annex III of the Nitrates Directive

Dear, This document represents the viewpoint of LTO (also on behalf of all sub-sectors and regions), POV, NAJK, and NMV on the European Commission's consultation regarding the RENURE proposal. The Agricultural and Horticultural Organization (LTO) Netherlands represents more than 35,000 Dutch farmers and horticulturists. The Pig Farming Organization (POV) advocates for the pig farming sector and represents 75% of pig farmers and production. The Dutch Young Farmers Association (NAJK) represents more than 8,000 young farmers and horticulturists in the Netherlands from various sectors in the age between 16 and 35. The Dutch Dairy Farmers Union (NMV) advocates for the interests of dairy farming and represents about 2,000 dairy farmers. The Dutch agricultural sector is highly diverse, with agricultural entrepreneurs in various sub-sectors. The majority of these entrepreneurs are represented by the signatory parties. Response to The protection of waters against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources – Evaluation

The Dutch agricultural sector is known for being innovative and progressive. Every day, Dutch farmers are busy producing sustainable and healthy food for all of Europe. The Dutch Young Farmers Association represents more than 8,000 young farmers and horticulturists in the Netherlands across all sectors. In recent years, significant progress has been made regarding groundwater quality in the Netherlands, but we believe there is still much more potential. The nitrate directive provides an important framework for the scope that agricultural entrepreneurs have to take further steps. At the moment, they are facing several issues that hinder sustainability and further development. For this reason, we are happy to provide our insights on the Nitrate Directive. 1.
