We welcome the European Commissions upcoming EU Cardiovascular Health Plan. We suggest focusing on addressing the root causes and specific vulnerabilities of different socio-demographic groups while avoiding a prohibitionist approach. PAC recognizes the need to address the issue of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) as it remains the leading cause of mortality in the European Union, with around 60 million people currently living with these conditions and annual economic costs estimated at 282 billion. This burden is projected to rise significantly by 2040 if systemic preventive measures are not adopted. Therefore, we call for progressive, evidence-based approaches across prevention, regulation, and public health promotion. Please find attached a document with more information on our proposal.
