Response to Revision of the CO2 emission standards for cars and vans

We believe that a technology-neutral approach is essential to achieve reductions in transport emissions. Drawing on experience with biofuels, we see value in combining different low-carbon pathways - such as electrification, sustainable biofuels, hybrids, and flex-fuel technologies - supported by consistent life-cycle assessments that capture their full environmental impact. We also see higher ethanol blends (for example, moving from E10 to E20) as a practical and cost-effective way to reduce emissions from the existing vehicle fleet, making immediate progress without major infrastructure changes. The success of flex-fuel vehicles in countries like Brazil illustrates how ethanol can contribute meaningfully to decarbonization while maintaining consumer flexibility. In this context, maintaining technology neutrality, expanding the role of ethanol within fuel standards, and adopting life-cycle-based assessments could help ensure that all effective solutions contribute to the EUs climate objectives. Response to Towards a Circular, Regenerative and Competitive Bioeconomy

Raízen appreciates the EUs leadership in advancing a sustainable and resilient bioeconomy. As a global producer of biofuels and bio-based materials, we believe the EU Strategy can be strengthened by focusing on high-impact sectors (biofuels, biochemicals and bioplastics), embracing international cooperation, and recognising the role of sustainable imports in achieving climate and competitiveness goals.
