Response to Circular Economy Act

6 Nov 2025

Grodan welcomes the European Commissions initiative to gather stakeholder feedback on the forthcoming Circular Economy Act (CEA). The CEA offers a historic opportunity to realign Europes industrial and environmental strategies with sustainable principles. To successfully transition from a linear to a truly circular economy, driving competitiveness, resilience and decarbonisation. To make circularity a practical reality, the CEA must: - harmonise legislative and regulatory frameworks and definitions across the EU; - digitalise and simplify cross-border waste movements; - incentivize efficient collection and recycling systems; and - create predictable demand for secondary raw materials. Driving on our operational experience in circular horticulture and material recovery, this paper outlines Grodans proposed five priority areas, each crucial to enabling an effective, scalable, and harmonized circular economy across the EU.

Response to Aligning the biodegradability criteria for polymers in EU fertiliisng products to the REACH restriciton on microplastics

4 Apr 2024

Grodan supports and welcomes the draft proposals published by the European Commission regarding further integration of biodegradable plastics into the European Fertilising Products Regulation (FPR). We believe that it is crucial to transition towards more sustainable agricultural practices, and incorporating biodegradable plastics is a positive step in this direction. Grodan acknowledges the importance of upholding environmental standards for agriculture while allowing innovative solutions to contribute to the sustainable transition. Therefore, Grodan welcomes the standardized testing, certification processes, and clear criteria for biodegradability and compostability. It will guarantee the environmental integrity of these products while ensuring their performance. We support the Commission's efforts to promote the use of biodegradable plastics as part of a circular bioeconomy and in alignment with the objectives outlined in the Farm to Fork Communication Strategy. These products have the potential to reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable future for agriculture. By formalising the recognition of biodegradable plastics within the FPR for more FPC, we believe these products will have a clearer position in the market, facilitating access for farmers across all Member States. At Grodan, we remain committed to supporting sustainable agricultural solutions that prioritise environmental protection and contribute to the reduction of plastic waste.

Response to New EU Soil Strategy - healthy soil for a healthy life

10 Dec 2020

Grodan welcomes the opportunity to provide its contribution on the Commission’s Roadmap for the New Soil Strategy and fully endorses the Commission’s ambition to define time-bound measures for the restoration of soils and preventing their further degradation. In this context, Grodan recognises the crucial role soils play for living ecosystems and the services these provide for a healthy planet, food and people and calls on the Commission to acknowledge and support sustainable food production methods that do not require soils and therefore prevent their erosion. Please see the positon paper for more info.
