SDG4MED is a no profit association aiming at acting as an "observatory of sustainable development objectives for the Mediterranean"(SGDs)contributing in general to the cultural debate starting from the themes defined in the UN2030 Agenda, orienting its activities towards initiatives, local and medium-sized Enterprises and small Municipalities of the Mediterranean basin in achieving the SGDS.

Response to EU Start-up and Scale-up Strategy

SMEs (shich startaps are part of at least initially) are vital for EU as they grant at least 40% of jobs ad a not negligible part of EU GDP. They need to be nursued in their infancy so as to grow, stabilise and produce wealth. We TOTALLY agree that they the hurdles identified in the Commission document (access to finance, regulatory and bureaucratic burdens and fragmentation, access to markets, access to talent, and access to infrastructure, knowledge and services). One apparently minor but we believe important additional hurdle is that they necessarily do not have the dimension/human resources to follow/monitor the (several) Commission initiatives they could benefit from

Response to The European Oceans Pact

This Commission initiative is most welcomed: indeed an integrated approach to ocean governance, so far excessively fragmented in several (too many?) partial govenance(s) is pivotal to a robust and coherent set of policies. Undoubtfully specific comments could be made suggesting not to forget one or another specific component; we believe it is not the rigth moment to do so: not only because there are so many components to be considered that it could be too early to go into details but specially because we trust focus should be given, in the beginning, on the approach to be inclusive and foresighting. We therefore encourage the Commission to go ahead and will do our best to contribute, if and as we will be able to, to the next steps starting from our active participation to the Ocean Days.
