Response to A new Circular Economy Action Plan

20 Jan 2020

SCOPE: LIPOR - Intermunicipal Waste Management of Greater Porto, Portugal, taking up the challenge for the sustainable management of urban waste in Greater Porto, Portugal, defines as a guideline of its activity until 2020 the vision of “waste as a resource”, continuing the strategy of the previous Strategic Plan. Our business model enables a unique national performance in the sense that is organized according to the waste management hierarchy and the national and community legal strategic reference framework, promoting a clear transition to the circular economy model by using less primary resources (promoting recycling, efficient use of resources and utilization of renewable energy sources), maintaining the highest value of materials and products (promoting remanufacturing, refurbishment and reuse and product life extension) and acting closely with citizens and other stakeholders to change utilization patterns (promoting product as service, sharing models and shift in consumption patterns). In Portugal, LIPOR is one of the most qualified and experienced entities in the application of the circular model of materials and with experience in implementing consistent circularity projects in alignment with the principles of circular economy. These are the reasons why LIPOR understand as having property to present a constructive position to the New Circular Economy Action Plan.
