SINTEF Ocean AS would like to emphasize an important aspect of the development of offshore renewables and the interplay with the development of other sustainable industries and value chains in the oceans.
Ocean based seaweed production can play a key role in developing new industrial opportunities while reducing climate gas emissions. The use of ocean renewables for the development of seaweed production for CO2 sequestration and further processing to food, feedstuff and sustainable bio-based energy sources will become an important element towards the transition to a climate neutral society and the development of new sustainable value chains.
SINTEF Ocean AS suggest that the road map also explicitly refers to the strategies for the development of seaweed production for CO2 sequestration and further processing. Offshore wind farms can also provide useful multi-use infrastructure for production of other seaweed related products.
