Response to Union framework for the calculation of life-cycle Global Warming Potential for new buildings

31 Oct 2025

While indispensable for assessing a products impact on the environmental performance of buildings, the calculation of lifecycle GWP of buildings requires a solid standardisation and legislative framework across the EU, which is currently lacking. Legislators should commit to the main and only series of standards that correctly define the scope and functioning of EPDs (ISO 14000-series and EN 15804) and ensure that no market fragmentation occurs due to the adherence of incompatible and inappropriate standards. As the European Commission is striving for a level playing field for EPD requirements throughout Europe, this document contains our recommendations for the uptake of an accurate, non-misleading European EPD scheme. Our recommendations 1) Stay true to the objective of EPDs and ensure the correct application of the ISO 14000-series and EN 15804 standards 2) Avoid a mandatory Use Stage to prevent incorrect info and unnecessary admin 3) Pursue a Lifecycle Cost and environmental impact calculation instead of a Use Stage in EPDs

Response to Heating and cooling strategy

9 Oct 2025

The EUs forthcoming Heating & Cooling Strategy could unlock the potential of existing European solutions for the decarbonisation of the building stock - a sector intrinsically linked to heating and cooling. In doing so, the EU can simultaneously accelerate decarbonisation and strengthen Europes manufacturing base. Enclosed is a paper that presents four key recommendations that are indispensable to achieving those sustainability goals: 1) Recognise that different applications require different heating and cooling solutions; 2) Promote energy recovery to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling; 3) Foster renewable-powered heating and cooling by ensuring a level playing field; and 4) Simplify legislation by completing the Single Market.
