Response to European Critical Raw Materials Act

16 Jun 2023

The Pan-European Resources and Reserves Reporting Committee (PERC) is a not-for-profit association of six professional organisations whose membership includes a significant proportion of currently active European mining professionals involved in the extractive minerals industry in Europe and around the world. PERC is a member organisation of The Committee for Mineral Reserves International Reporting Standards (CRIRSCO) which recognises PERC as the National Reporting Organisation for Europe. PERC welcomes the publication of the Critical Raw Materials Act 2023 (CRMA) and its recognition of the importance of the extractive industry in supporting the European Unions policy goals. To assist in the better understanding and implementation of the CRMA, PERC has provided comments and suggestions for changes and additions to the CRMA text, as published in March 2023, under the following four themes: Project financing and investor protection for Mineral Companies; Harmonisation of minerals information in Europe; Recognition of existing reporting standards in the international minerals sector; Secondary sources of critical and strategic mineral raw materials. PERCs submission has been reviewed and endorsed by the CRIRSCO Executive and the Board of the European Federation of Geologists (EFG). Our full submission is provided in the accompanying document.
