Response to Evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020

21 Jun 2018

Golf at global, regional, national and local level is contributing towards increasing biodiversity through positive habitat creation and management at golf facilities. The R&A supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals and backs national golf organisations in their work to align golf's biodiversity actions with government programmes in their country. There are some excellent projects being run at national and local level. Golf also has its own sustainability system, OnCourse and GEO Certified, which supports and promotes widespread action on the ground across the nature, resources and communities agenda. The evaluation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020 is essential if action is to be taken across the EU, and further afield, to halt biodiversity loss and make gains. Golf courses around the world make up an area of a similar size to Belgium and we believe that the sport of golf is a valuable stakeholder in protecting and enhancing biodiversity and we look forward to being involved in the consultation process through 2019 and 2020.
