Response to EU standards for safe and secure parkings

7 Feb 2022

TAPA EMEA - Position Statement The lack of secure parking places represents the biggest threat to the safety and security of drivers, trucks and cargo in Europe. Over many years, TAPA EMEA has been working with the EU representing its members in a number of projects, including SETPOS, LABEL and, since 2020, sitting on the expert group of the EC Safe and Secure Truck Parking initiative (SSTPA) standard. TAPA EMEA has initiated to pursue a campaign to significantly expand the number of parking sites that conform to its Parking Security Requirements (PSR) Standard whilst continuing to reach out to the EC and the EU Members for collaborative approach in addressing the need for increased truck parking capability. In seeking constructive dialogue with the Commission, TAPA´s primary objective is still to reach a mutual recognition position between both the PSR and SSTPA standards. We will seek to increase secure parking capability in collaboration with EU SSTPA but if the Commission cannot support this strategy, TAPA will also continue with the PSR as an independent program. TAPA EMEA is also planning a revision update of the PSR standards for the year 2022, so the time for a further joint vote could not be better.
