Response to Pharmaceutical Strategy - Timely patient access to affordable medicines

We welcome the new roadmap for EU Pharmaceutical strategy. We believe that the EU Pharmaceutical strategy in the current version serves the EU strategical ambitions well, with well-considered ambitions. However, the document also contains many 'slogans', such as the revision of the orphan legislation, pediatrics, or policy in the field of drug shortages, pricing, etc. What we believe is missing is' evidence building for balanced and informed policy making '. New technologies that are mentioned in point 6. mainly concern new developments such as artificial intelligence. New types of medicines and the more complex treatment strategies are, as such, not mentioned or limited. We would be happy to provide more input on those when requested. It contains themes that are in line with the expertise and research strategies of our Center for Pharmaceutical Policy and Regulation at Utrecht University. We would be happy to elaborate on these in the further development of EU Pharmaceutical strategy.
