Response to Carbon Removal Certification

24 Feb 2023

In its attachment you can find Value Maritime's full response. The most important takeaways can be found in these three points: Support innovative technologies We would like to suggest you consider including carbon capture utilization technology in the relevant regulatory framework as soon as possible. Should the regulators allow for a broad definition it will allow for, not only, current but also future technologies/innovations to be accepted by regulations to help/assist in reducing GHG emissions. Carbon capture utilization is an excellent opportunity to assist in reducing GHG emissions. We call upon you to not only look at storage, but actively support utilization as well, to help reach climate goals. Compare on basis of well-to-wake The preferred Well-to-Wake calculation method proves that this offers the most realistic, most effective way to help reach the climate goals until other options like green fuels become readily available in the future. Include in calculations As carbon capture makes a significant impact on reducing GHG emissions, not only CO2. We suggest including this into the relevant regulations and formulas used. Value Maritime proposes to add a correction factor to GHG emission calculations to include the reduction of GHG emissions with the CCUS technology solutions.
